Expect Relief, Expect Awareness
Rolfing is the ultimate “letting go!”
- The environment is peaceful, serene and safe.
- Rolfing is very much a partnership between the Rolfer and you. In the beginning you will provide a health history and discuss the issues that brought you to Rolfing.
- Through deep, safe manipulation of the body’s connective and muscular tissue, Rolfing works to release holding patterns that have inhibited posture, movement and comfort.
- Rolfing follows a unique ordered pattern that creates a feeling of ease as the body’s structure naturally returns to a comfortable stature.
- By restoring the body’s natural alignment, a whole history of events may be worked out and worked through, providing one with a sense of well-being.
- Rolfing begins by evaluating your structure. You will wear underwear and be treated on a table similar to a massage therapist’s. For your comfort, pillows and a loose blanket will be provided. At times you will stand and walk for further evaluation.
- Occasionally you will be given simple physical assignments (exercises) to do between sessions to assess how your “new” body is running.

Why Rolfing?
- Gravity is a powerful force that constantly works against the body.
- Poor body posture, physical injury, emotional trauma or repetitive movement causes the body to compensate, assuming un-natural positions and holding on to tension.
- Misalignment affects the whole person; body, mind and spirit.
- Generally people seek out Rolfing due to pain in a certain area of the body, injury or poor posture.
- Rolfing releases the body’s patterns of “holding” and tension thus creating balance and fluid movement.

The Rolfing Ten-Series
- Typically, Rolfing begins with a series of ten sessions referred to as the “ten-series”. During the initial session, Joe will consult with you to determine whether Rolfing is right for you.
- When the whole body is out of alignment, treating just the symptoms is only a short-term solution.
- Rolfing is a succession of treatments building upon the previous to provide a cumulative effect and create long-term results. This reinforces the philosophy of treating the body as a whole.
- Once the initial series is complete the body will continue to change for up to four to six months.
- The Rolfing ten-series is designed to be a once-in-a-lifetime process however, many people return for treatment when they suffer injury or trauma after their initial Rolfing.

How does Rolfing feel?
- Rolfing is based on manipulating and releasing fascia (soft, connective tissue) so it feels like a deep tissue massage.
- Sensations range with the level of treatment. Sometimes a gentle pressure is used, and sometimes a more intense pressure resulting in momentary discomfort concluding in a feeling of release.
- Ultimately the Rolfer works with each individual to determine his or her comfort level.
- After Rolfing sessions many people experience a renewed
energy and feeling of balance and lightness.
